Why is any gameplay scrubby?
Valid mechanics are valid

It basically signifies what is FotM due to it's OP nature. Basically Nyan San battle doctrine. When you see Nyan san and a few others all unify around one fit, it is the FotM (scrub fit). I don't make the rules man.
I still don't get that mentality. Sure, I don't like getting two-shotted by a bolt pistol, but seriously, the goal is to win the game. Not do it honorably.
Should and Army not use Advanced Weapons just because the other fighters don't have them? Of Course Not, so why wouldn't we as Mercenaries?

If all you do is skill into the most OP fits, well then you sir are also a scrub. This means rather than use skill, you need a crutch to win. It goes back to the mentality of whether you would use cheat codes or not. Sure, it makes the game easier, but is it more fun that way? Also, Identification and mitigation of OP stuff is CCP's job, and all they really need to do to identify OP fits is to track the scrubs and how they fit. Most everyone craves a game with a level playing field... well those that aren't crutchers anyway. The most rewarding fights are those that are evenly matched, when you have OP stuff, this just means to have an evenly matched game everyone is in the same fits. That is boring as hell.
I'm far from a FoTM chaser, I've been running Logi since 1.0 CCP will identify things they say are OP and adjust accordingly. Those changes have been coming faster since the hotfixes started. If a weapon or suit is OP, it'll get nerfed.
In the meantime, it's still a valid mechanic. People using FoTM still die, even to my UP Logi fits. |

Well bro that isn't exactly right there are things like the rules of engagement and the geneva convention http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rules_of_engagement which dictate a moral guide line for combat. I don't know if you are a marksman in rl, but when you read nato rounds it means it is a copper bullet as apposed to lead so you do not poison your target should he survive. And know you know! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c71nqMqmiaw
Yep, because everyone on the planet follows the Geneva Convention to the letter. /S
No, I'm not a marksman in real life. Not a soldier, cop, or enthusiast but I know that in a fight to the death, the goal is to be the one still alive at the end.

Should and Army not use Advanced Weapons just because the other fighters don't have them? Of Course Not, so why wouldn't we as Mercenaries? This right here is the problem. It is a game with lots of stuff to be enjoyed. Yet, we have people who boil it all down to what wins because its stats got pumped up to OP levels and spams it. This is nothing more than exploiting the mechanics, not using something effectively because you simply can from a metagame standpoint (i.e. Outthinking opponents with tactics). This game has recently furthered that scrub mentality rather than nerfed it. Some people refuse to run the same FOTM crap just to win. They therefore lose because of it. That shouldn't be the reason they lose. This ruins the game. It makes it boring, predictable and ultimately fail as a product. No problem for DUST I guess. It is dead in the water so I suppose some people say what the hell let's help kill it off faster. However, these same people were doing the same thing when DUST had a chance to be something.
Did you miss the part where I said I've been Logi since 1.0?
The mentality isn't wrong. People play this game to win. I win by having 4K WP on the board yet still going 2/6. Other win by going 24/0 with a Sentinel and a RR/Bolt, still others win just by the victory/loss screen.
There was jsut a thread yesterday of people saying that "Competitive" shooters require no bonuses to weapons, guns, and fits. I say that's boring and many disagreed with me. In this thread, I'm saying the exact same thing, and people are disagreeing with me.
There will never be perfect balance in a game with as many fits, suits and weapons. SOMETHING will always be OP/UP. It's learning how to handle that FoTM "scrubs" so that you can still win. You said

I say, seeing that Nyain squad on the other side, knowing what is FoTM, and knowing you can counter it gives a better advantage and allows tactics to prevail over "Herp, Derp, Heavy wit a bolt" |

Of course in real life there is no such thing as "unfair" when it comes to a fight to the death. But this is a game, with specific rules that are supposed to allow everyone the same opportunity to win, exploiting loopholes or oversights in those rules gives one an unfair advantage. The real shame isn't that these loopholes exist, it's that some people don't see a problem with exploiting them. It's quite simply poor sportsmanship. I really don't understand how people can enjoy a win they didn't really have to compete for.
I'm not confusing anything. I know the difference between a game and real life. It was an example of people using more advanced weapons (OP) against less advanced weapons (UP). In this game, however, we are mercenaries hired to achieve and objective. There is no "Wait, no.. no... we need you to win but you can't do [whatever]" No. In game, we're "hired" to win. full stop.
Also, nothing is an exploit until CCP says it is.
Trust me, I love killing people who skill FoTM, love it. I don't, however, consider it an exploit, loophole, or anything else. I consider it a challenge to overcome. |
